Residence S, Stuttgart - South

Technical and energy-efficient refurbishment of residential building S in Stuttgart, built by architect Klaus Franz in 1967-1970. Photovoltaic shingles - originally cement fibre shingles - on the roof in combination with a heat pump ensure a positive energy balance. Most of the building's building services and plumbing were replaced, as was the glazing. The exposed concrete had to be renovated in places and was given a protective glaze. All fixtures and fittings were retained after a thorough cleaning. In general, original materials that had to be removed during the renovation for technical reasons, e.g. tiles and fixtures, were reused. Where necessary, additions were made to the original materials. During the careful refurbishment, the architecture of the building was preserved in its original, listed state. The energy concept was developed by Transsolar Energietechnik GmbH.
